How to format SQL online
Pretty-print messy SQL queries in your browser with Toolora’s free SQL Formatter.
Why format SQL?
Queries copied from logs, ORMs, or chat are often one long line. Formatting puts SELECT, FROM, WHERE, and JOIN clauses on their own lines so you can read and debug them faster.
Steps
1) Open SQL Formatter. 2) Paste your query in the left pane. 3) Copy the formatted SQL from the right pane — it updates as you type. Work stays in your browser — the query is not uploaded.
Search tip
This page is for queries like “sql formatter online” and “beautify sql”. It is not an EXPLAIN runner and does not talk to a database. JSON Formatter is for JSON. HTML/CSS/JS formatters are for those languages. Invalid SQL may still indent as text — read the result before shipping it.
Worked example
A one-line SELECT a, b FROM t WHERE id IN (1,2) AND name = 'Ada' becomes clauses on separate lines so JOIN and WHERE are obvious. Dialect-specific hints (Postgres ::json, SQL Server brackets) are not rewritten into another vendor. Nothing is uploaded. Close the tab if the query has production filters.
Privacy
Queries stay in the browser. Related: /tools/json-formatter, /tools/csv-json-converter if you needed a table dump instead of SQL. Common mistakes: expecting EXPLAIN or a live database, pasting JSON, and assuming Postgres ::casts become standard SQL. Dialect-specific brackets and backticks are not rewritten for another vendor.
